Anti-Pelosi Democrats Search for Female to Challenge Pelosi for Speaker Position

Democrats are looking to fight fire with fire as they search for a viable female candidate to keep Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) away from the House Majority Leader position.

Many Democrats in the House do not want Pelosi to return as Speaker after months of bad moves that made Democrats in the House look weak and out of touch. As such, they’ve started a list, filling it with names of House Democrat members who will refuse to vote for Pelosi when it comes time to select the new Majority Leader.

Pelosi has already begun her campaign both in and out of Washington. CNN did a puff piece on Pelosi where they cast her as a leader looked down on by her own party because she’s a woman. As identity politics currently rule the day within the Democratic party, this is an effective tactic. So effective that Pelosi has already stated that she will be Speaker again.

In order to counteract Pelosi’s narrative of being a rejected by members of her party because she’s a woman, the Democrat insurgents have responded with a new plan: find a woman to replace Pelosi.

According to The Hill, Democrat insurgents want this clear that the reason they reject Pelosi has nothing to do with her sex:

Rep. Kathleen Rice (D-N.Y.), one Pelosi detractor, hammered the argument that the California Democrat’s promotion is the only way to secure female leadership at the very top of the party.

“To those who say that this is an issue of gender, that’s just not true. I’m a woman, and a lot of our new members are women, and they should not be made to feel that they are anti-woman if they don’t want to vote for Nancy Pelosi,” Rice said Wednesday, leaving a closed-door Democratic meeting in the Capitol.

“We have an enormous number of talented women in the caucus — an enormous number.”

Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio), who seems to be leading the insurgency against Pelosi has already begun searching for a woman to pit against the former Speaker. At this time the there frontrunners appear to be Reps. Cheri Bustos (Ill.), Marcia Fudge (Ohio), and Karen Bass (Calif.). Of the three, Ryan has spoken to Fudge and Bass.

Fudge has expressed the most interest in challenging Pelosi.

According to a Gallup poll, the majority of Democrats would rather not see Pelosi return as Speaker.
