Florida Governor Fires Elections Supervisor Brenda Snipes for ‘Multiple Violations of Florida Law’

On Friday, Florida Gov. Rick Scott officially suspended Broward County elections supervisor Brenda Snipes from her duties.

She’d occupied the position since 2003, having won four elections since originally being placed there by then-Gov. Jeb Bush.

Snipes was part of a state-sized blunder, of course, involving a very tense recount in Florida’s Senate and gubernatorial races earlier this month.

In a release announcing the suspension, Scott — who, in the Senate race, defeated Democratic incumbent Bill Nelson — criticized Snipes’s “misfeasance, incompetence and neglect of duty.”

Wow. That’s pretty much saying she totally stunk.

He also accused her of “multiple violations of Florida law.”

Yeah — “stunk,” pretty much.

According to reports, Snipes had already resigned. She was set to step down in January.

Scott has named Peter Antonacci as supervisor. A new elected official for the position won’t be voted in until November 2020.

More from the press release:

Every eligible voter in Florida deserves their vote to be counted and should have confidence in Florida’s elections process. After a series of inexcusable actions, it’s clear that there needs to be an immediate change in Broward County and taxpayers should no longer be burdened by paying a salary for a Supervisor of Elections who has already announced resignation.

I know that Pete will be solely focused on running free and fair elections, will not be running for election and will bring order and integrity back to this office.
