The testimony of Brett Kavanaugh’s sexual assault accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, has been weighed, measured, and found wanting according to sex-crimes prosecutor Rachel Mitchell.
As Joe Cunningham wrote earlier, the experienced prosecutor said in a memo that evidence supporting Ford’s claims are so lacking that it fails to even get past the hearsay portion of the story since Ford’s witnesses either destroy the story or fail to support it at all:
In the legal context, here is my bottom line: A “he said, she said” case is incredibly difficult to prove. But this case is even weaker than that. Dr. Ford identified other witnesses to the event, and those witnesses either refuted her allegations or failed to corroborate them. For the reasons discussed below, I do not think that a reasonable prosecutor would bring this case based on the evidence before the Committee. Nor do I believe that this evidence is sufficient to satisfy the preponderance-of-the-evidence standard.
The inability for witnesses to corroborate is accompanied by so many inconsistencies in Ford’s story that Mitchell believes that no prosecutor worth their salt would try it in court.
Yet Democrats and their media compatriots are still out there trying to push the narrative that we should “#BelieveSurvivors” and that we’re a society on the brink of making rape okay. Why? Because as many of us here at RedState have written before, it was never about Kavanaugh. The left is fully willing to make a villain out of an innocent man because it stood to accomplish a few things.
For one, it might have put a Constitutionalist on the Supreme Court. The left wants constructionist judges, not textualists. They want judges who will fill in the blanks to make a law allowable when it very well shouldn’t be, not one who will rule against the law because it fails to meet the necessary standards to stay law.
Secondly, and possibly most importantly, it allows them a narrative that Republicans are the bad guys they’ve been saying they are all along. That the right is filled with people who would push a dastardly sexual fiend for Supreme Court and fight hard against victims to put them there. The hashtags and media campaigns from celebrities are not as spontaneous as they would have you believe. Alissa Milano was not there because she and Feinstein are just buddies like that.
It’s not exactly news that the left and the media work in tandem with one another, and the narrative going into midterms needs to be a strong one. Kavanaugh was just a means to an end. The Democrats see the evidence as much as we do and know Kavanaugh isn’t the monster they’ve painted him to be, but he’s going to play the part regardless because a story is oftentimes only as good as its villain.
The more monstrous the left makes Kavanaugh out to be, the greater the tragedy the Republicans are supposedly hoisting onto America.
The more outrage votes the left can count on in November.
