Governor Abbott Appoints LaFavers And Long To Board Of Pardons and Paroles

Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Jim LaFavers and appointed Brian Long to the Board of Pardons and Paroles for terms set to expire February 1, 2023.

Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Jim LaFavers and appointed Brian Long to the Board of Pardons and Paroles for terms set to expire February 1, 2023. The Board makes parole decisions for Texas prison inmates, determines conditions for parole and mandatory supervision, and makes recommendations on clemency matters to the governor.

Jim LaFavers of Amarillo was first appointed as a member of the board in 2011 and currently serves as the chairman of the Rules Committee. He previously worked as a detective sergeant in the Amarillo Police Department and as a private investigator and member of The Association of Paroling Authorities International. LaFavers received an Associate’s of Science in police science from Amarillo College and a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice administration from West Texas State University.

Brian Long of Kilgore is currently a hearing officer for the Texas Board of Pardons & Paroles. He is a board member of the Kilgore Boys Baseball Association and a member of the Mobberly Baptist Church, where he is a choir member and youth teacher. Long received an Associate in Applied Science in criminal justice form Tyler Junior College and a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from The University of Texas at Tyler.
