Governor Abbott Visits Hurricane Shelter In Austin

Governor Greg Abbott and First Lady Cecilia Abbott today visited with Texans seeking refuge from Hurricane Harvey at a Red Cross Shelter in Austin, Texas.

Governor Greg Abbott and First Lady Cecilia Abbott today visited with Texans seeking refuge from Hurricane Harvey at a Red Cross Shelter in Austin, Texas. The Governor and First Lady also toured the shelter and helped serve dinner to Texans staying there.  
 
During his visit, the Governor and First Lady reassured storm victims that the State of Texas is doing everything possible to assist in the recovery effort and ensure resources are available to victims in the coming days and weeks. Earlier today, the Governor added 20 additional Texas counties to his State Disaster Declaration to allow Texas to quickly deploy all available resources to those affected by this devastating storm.
 
“Although these Texans have suffered a great hardship, their warmth and resiliency is truly inspiring,” said Governor Abbott. “The true heart of Texas is its people, and through this very trying time, I have no doubt we will emerge stronger than ever. These amazing families are a much needed reminder of the Texas spirit as we battle this storm.”
 
The Governor also asks Texans to review important safety information about of the storm.
