The Rosanky Community Center will add a new playscape thanks to a $25,000 community development grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative.

The community center will use the grant, along with local matching funds, to buy and install an American with Disabilities Act-accessible playscape, providing a safe area for all of the community’s children to gather and play.

The center is used almost every weekend for various types of events, including weddings, family reunions and voting, and the addition of the playscape will make the facility more family-oriented, said James Rose, president of the Rosanky Community Center Association.

“There are really no other playgrounds for the kids in the southern part of the county,” he said. “It’s going to reach out far and help a lot of people.”

Community volunteers will contribute their skills to install the new equipment.

The community grant is one of a number of grants recently awarded through LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program. The program provides economic development and community assistance grants to cities, counties, volunteer fire departments, regional development councils and other nonprofit organizations in LCRA’s electric and water service areas. The program is part of LCRA’s effort to give back to the communities it serves. Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative is one of LCRA’s wholesale electric customers and a partner in the grant program.

Applications for the next round of grants are due July 31. More information is available at lcra.org/cdpp.
