LCRA, City of Goldthwaite Award $18,935 Grant for New Bleachers

LCRA and City of Goldthwaite representatives present an $18,935 grant to the Goldthwaite Consolidated Independent School District for new bleachers. The grant is part of LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program. Goldthwaite Consolidated Independent School District sports fans soon will be cheering from two sets of new, transportable bleachers thanks to an $18,935 community development grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and the City of Goldthwaite.

The grant, along with $4,735 in local matching funds, will allow the district to provide more seating at its football stadium and track. At busy events, some spectators have to stand or even bring their own lawn chairs because of the limited seating now available. At the end of the football season, the new bleachers, which will be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, will be moved to the track.

“We are so excited to get something that will better accommodate people in attendance at football games and track meets,” said Jenice Benningfield, Goldthwaite Consolidated ISD technology director. “Current conditions make it difficult for our elderly spectators to enjoy events. But now, it’s a whole new ballgame.”

The community grant is one of a number of grants recently awarded through LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program. The program provides economic development and community assistance grants to cities, counties, volunteer fire departments, regional development councils and other nonprofit organizations in LCRA’s wholesale electric and water service areas. The program is part of LCRA’s effort to give back to the communities it serves. The City of Goldthwaite is one of LCRA’s wholesale electric customers and a partner in the grant program.

Applications for the next round of grants are due Jan. 31. More information is available at
