The Friends of Spicewood Community Library soon will purchase a new digital sign thanks to a $10,640 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and Pedernales Electric Cooperative.
The new sign will allow the library to change messaging remotely and will replace a 10-year-old message board that is worn and requires personnel to update messages by hand.
“A remotely programmable electronic sign will provide valuable community communications efficiently,” said Jane Gannaway, Friends of Spicewood Community Library director. “For the first time, we will be able to post multiple messages at once.”
The new electronic sign will display library offerings, programs and announcements, along with notices from community partners such as Spicewood Elementary School. Weather warnings and other emergency alerts, such as low-water road closures, also can easily be displayed.
The community grant is awarded through LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program, which provides economic development and community assistance grants to cities, counties, volunteer fire departments, regional development councils and other nonprofit organizations in LCRA’s wholesale electric and water service areas. The program is part of LCRA’s effort to give back to the communities it serves. PEC is one of LCRA’s wholesale electric customers and a partner in the grant program.
