LCRA, wholesale electric customers award more than $594,000 in community grants

The Lower Colorado River Authority and its wholesale electric customers recently awarded $594,386 in grants to community projects throughout LCRA’s service territory.

Grants from LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program will help fund projects ranging from providing life-saving equipment to volunteer fire departments and other first responders to improving parks, theaters and museums that help support local economies. The program provides grants to cities, counties, volunteer fire departments and other nonprofit organizations in LCRA’s electric and water service areas.

“The communities LCRA serves are the lifeblood of the region,” LCRA General Manager Phil Wilson said. “We are proud to partner with our wholesale electric customers to support these communities to help them continue to thrive. Many of these projects could not be completed without the grants, and it is our honor to help improve public safety and the quality of life for the communities in our service area.”

Since 1995, LCRA and its customers have awarded 1,580 grants valued at more than $43 million. Communities receiving the grants have raised more than $218 million in matching funds, resulting in a total investment in local projects of more than $261 million.
