Symphony Pops, Mariachi And Siclovia: The Weekend's Here!

Classical music, mariachi and good, old-fashioned exercise — the Weekend is here. Here are a few things to consider doing: First let’s go downtown to the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, where on Friday and Saturday nights the music will ring out. “We have the opening weekend of the San Antonio Symphony Pops series.” Associate Conductor Akiko Fujimoto will be directing. “We’re going to be performing songs from the ’40s, ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, to the present. Music that was made famous by Stevie Wonder, Johnny Mathis, The Carpenters, Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick… I could go on and on but basically, these are the greatest hits.” The Symphony will feature two guest singers to help re-create the hits. Then on Saturday, there’s a Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration at Mission Marquee Plaza. “And it kicks off at 3p.m. with live performance and music,” says Colleen Swain, who is with the city, and that live performance is from Mariachi Las Altenas. “We’ll have food, and
