On this week’s TribCast, Emily talks to Evan, Alexa and Patrick about the sexting allegations against state Sen. Charles Schwertner, why former President Obama hasn’t endorsed Senate hopeful Beto O’Rourke, and whether O’Rourke and Sen. Ted Cruz will revisit their canceled debate.

1. A Senate sexting scandal?

Alexa tells us everything we know — and don’t know — about the sexting allegation levied against Schwertner, a Georgetown Republican, and weighs in on what role the University of Texas and the Senate should be expected to play in investigating. Patrick talks through the political implications for Schwertner’s race and others on the ballot.

2. President Obama’s done a lot of endorsing…

…but he’s been noticeably quiet on O’Rourke’s Senate candidacy. Patrick and Evan suggest the former president’s stamp of approval might not play well for undecided voters in Texas, while Alexa and Emily weigh in on whether he’ll throw in at the eleventh hour, and whether it might mobilize black voters.

3. Down a debate

First, Cruz had to drop out of the second scheduled Senate debate because of the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings. Then, when his schedule suddenly freed up, O’Rourke said he was booked. Our panelists debate how this debate drama plays with voters — and whether they even care.

We’ll see you next week!
