WOKE: CNN Has a Creepy Obsession With Beto O’Rourke’s “Whiteness”

I’ve chronicled some of CNN’s latest craziness in the past week, but this may be the weirdest thing yet. Not because I don’t know exactly why they are doing it, but because there’s something unsettling about a news network that feels the need to mention someone’s race 52 times in a single day. There’s woke, and then there’s CNN woke.

MRC analysts looked at all of CNN’s coverage from March 14 (the first full day after O’Rourke’s announcement) and found 52 instances in which talking heads criticized Beto for being both white and a male. Those cases included only mentions by hosts, analysts, or outside journalists — not politicians or Democratic operatives.

Here’s a video mashup of over 20 of the mentions…

This is not healthy. Seriously.

Having a major “news” network indulge in this kind of nonsense is disappointing but not unexpected in CNN’s case. They essentially morphed themselves into a direct appendage of the Democratic party following Barack Obama’s nomination in 2008. Given that, they now feel the need to propagate liberal, racial politics so as push a narrative that is friendly to the wants of the Democratic base.

Misgivings about Beto’s racial and chromosomal makeup were front and center on CNN’s New Day that morning. During the 6:00 a.m. Eastern hour, co-host John Berman helpfully explained O’Rourke’s biology to viewers: “O’Rourke is a white male. And he’s conscious of his white maleness.”

Despite this, CNN’s Kirsten Powers still wasn’t happy with the level of wokeness, complaining about the fact that people still get too excited for white guys or something.

That morning during the 9:00 a.m. Eastern hour of CNN Newsroom, co-host Jim Sciutto warned potential Beto supporters that “a lot of the energy in the party right now is not for a white man.” However, CNN political commentator Kirsten Powers pushed back against that assessment the following hour, lamenting that even in the current year, there was “still an issue in this country where people just get very, very excited about white men.”

Anderson Cooper also felt the need to mention the obvious fact that Beto is a white male. Because I guess people didn’t know before?

As the day wore on, the once-beloved Beto’s status as a white male even began to muddle the analysis of his voting record. During AC360, Anderson Cooper remarked: “O’Rourke is, if you look at his record, a moderate.” With visible discomfort, he then added, “He’s also a white male.”

Can we just call this what it is? It’s racism. It’s the very definition of such for CNN to continually mention the fact that Beto is a “white male,” especially given that these mentions are clearly in a negative connotation. Imagine if CNN mentioned 52 times in one day that Kamala Harris is black, not in a positive light, but within the context of a political party not wanting someone of her race. Everyone would say that’s a terrible thing.

If Beto weren’t so insufferable, I might almost feel sorry for him. But I can’t because he’s choosing to chum the sharks himself and then jump into the water naked.

“The government at all levels is overly represented by white men,” he says. “That’s part of the problem, and I’m a white man. So if I were to run, I think it’s just so important that those who would comprise my team looked like this country.

If this guy isn’t going to defend himself and have enough courage to speak the truth about the constant mentions of his whiteness, then no one should bother wasting any sympathy on him. If you feed the beast, prepare to be eaten.

A real, credible news network would call this what it is instead of playing into it, but this is CNN we are talking about, so that’s not going to happen.  If nothing else, there’s perhaps some poetic justice in those who promote inter-sectionalism being consumed by it.
