February is American Heart Month

February is American Heart Month. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports one in four deaths in the United States is attributed to heart disease.

To maintain a healthy heart, they recommend you eat healthy foods low in trans fat, saturated fat and cholesterol and high in fiber. Other tips include maintaining a healthy weight, performing two hours and 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week, limiting alcohol and stopping smoking.

Be sure to schedule your annual physical with your health care provider. You can discuss tips and lifestyle changes, specific to you, that will keep your heart healthy.
