In the March issue of Fiscal Notes, we discuss cybersecurity in Texas — the industry that has sprung up in response to a rising tide of fraud and theft on the internet. Recent data indicate that cybercrime cost Texas individuals, businesses and institutions nearly $116 million in 2017, and companies are hiring freshly minted cybersecurity specialists as fast as they can. We also examine our state government’s efforts to boost its own information security and speak with the author of recent cybersecurity legislation intended to keep the state’s data safe.
