Job No. 1 in Special Session The Texas Sunset Advisory Commission has saved the state about $980 million since its inception by improving, consolidating and abolishing state agencies and programs during 40 years of reviews. Sunset legislation was the key reason the governor called a special session of the Texas Legislature, and the legislation, which reauthorizes several state agencies, was key to the session’s progression to other topics. With the help of Jennifer Jones, the Sunset Commission’s deputy director, Line Items created a primer on a collaborative process that involves the agencies being reviewed, the stakeholders they serve and Sunset staff. |
