After the world war, and for decades after, the world had no problem being on the same page when it came to the atrocities against humanity. Slowly thru the 80’s it’s become harder to agree what atrocities are worth standing up for. This has happened not because there is doubt, but because our leaders have begun to choose arbitrarily to decide what is considered worthy.
It begins when the leaders put their wants and needs above humanities. When personal popularity overrides morals and ethics. Early in the 80’s there was genocide going on in Rwanda. It was brought to the attention of the world and nothing was done to stop it. The brown in me knows better than to expect the UN to do it, but at least before the US in their need to be the big boss use to step in. It’s this righteousness which allowed them to get away with their other sins. However this time there was not to be any interference, because the President at the time didn’t want to deal with the situation. You can go and read up on your own on why and what. Recently the same scenario happened again in Syria, and again we had the same response. None from the UN and nada from the US.
And since the the last world war, there has been systematic atrocities being committed on the Palestinians. And thru this whole time the world has found ways and issues to avoid dealing with the abuser. Now its gotten to where the abuser doesn’t even try to be subtle. The wrongs have become rights. The state claims their wrong doing as their right. Their right to protect themselves.
Google unarmed Palestinians shot and see the results.
When the brown in me reads about the abuse and the hardships, it’s hard for me to grasp why this isn’t so overwhelmingly offensive to others. Why people who are suppose to be conscience and engaged do not act or even speak out on the offenses? It’s because we have been brainwashed by those who lead us. The one’s who come across as sane and reasonable are also the one’s who perpetuate the cycle. There is no excuse and no justification for what is happening to the Palestinians.
Last week one of those Presidents who avoided doing the right thing, was out there acting as a statesmen. Now he is out there saying the right things and sounding like a humanist.
“We are Americans. We’re supposed to stand up to bullies. Not follow them. We’re supposed to stand up to discrimination, and we’re sure as heck supposed to stand up clearly and unequivocally to Nazi sympathizers… how hard can that be, to say that Nazis are bad?!” Obama.
This is well, and appreciated in times of Double O, who has stopped the aid to Palestine, upped the ante in the anger by moving embassies. He has given Israel and its Hitler like leader the go ahead to do as he wishes, all the while the world tries to look away. However this so called statesman saying humanist things, also is the problem. In his last days in office he approved of billions of dollars in arms to be shipped to Israel. He in his eight years didn’t feel the need to stand up because it would hurt his own pocket and future endeavors. So is it any wonder the brown in me, and millions more are tired of and distrustful of all politicians? Even if they are half white and sound sincere and say the right words. Just replace the word Nazi with Israel on the above statement and realize its so true and appropriate. It’s leaders who are smooth who have helped blur the lines. We want to love them so. How hard is it to say Israel is bad, Mr Obama? Apparently in today’s world depends on who is funding your retirement. On who got you elected. On how much we like the person who decides to tell us what is wrong. There was a time when wrong was wrong, and evil was evil.
Saddest part about this is, your love of one leader over the other will define your agreement or distaste of this blog.
