Walls come crashing down.

Today is the last day of the year, and the last column in what has been a very rewarding journey for the last two years. I have enjoyed writing and sharing, but as I have mentioned a few weeks back, I will not be doing the twice a week columns. I am contemplating a new format and discussing a different approach.

My last column in this series I wanted to address something very topical in America and something which has acted as a symbol in my life. Walls. The two most famous walls in history should be a lesson to all. Walls never work. The Chinese wall was constantly being overrun by various factions. You don’t have to read history, just watch Mulan and you will know. The Iron Curtain also fell, as it too failed to keep away its so called enemies. It’s why I find it hard to take seriously the idea America can build a wall as a solution to the immigration problem.

When I started this, I was always being bombarded for criticizing Obama and his failures. At some point the readers believed I was a die hard Trump supporter. What I was doing was pointing out the reasons Americans voted for Trump and the reasons the media was responsible. As I had pointed out the failures of Obama, it is fitting two years out I can now state Trump is the same old as the occupant before him. He has already wasted the opportunity to change the world for the better. He has also let down the real people of America. He may go to change some things for the better but his Presidency for the brown in me is already a failure. For 50 years the world has needed America to not support the two evils of this world. Saudi Arabia and Israel. However due to politics and business no American president has been in a position to jettison these countries nor has had the balls. Trump was handed the perfect opportunity. America is not dependent on foreign oil anymore, and the Saudi Arabia has a rogue sociopath who made a huge mistake by having a journalist killed in Turkey and getting caught. Here was the opportunity. Dump Saudi Arabia and change the dynamics of the whole middle east. Without America, Saudi Arabia is just a dessert full of spoiled cowards. At the same time Trump having had no political affiliation and history, did not owe anything to the establishment. Thus he was free to be radical enough to dump Israel. Israel is our welfare recipient we need to cut out. Trump also seemed to be crazy enough to think out of the box and abandon Israel. However instead he listened to the Clown Prince of America, his son in law, and doubled down on Israel. So now America is fully responsible for there being no peace in the middle east. As long as Israel is unchecked there will be no peace. Finally the tax cut is designed to benefit the rich in the long run, and the those who believed in Trump haven’t felt the repercussions of the cut yet, but they will and it will be too late by then. The good of Trump is he rocked the establishment and now no one is safe. Pomp and circumstance went out the door. Thus the success of the #metoo movement in exposing the evils of establishment and entitlement. Too bad the messenger wasn’t as good as the message. The world needs to be upturned.

So now as the year ends, he is focused on this wall. Why? Does he and his followers truly believe walls work? In my life walls have been broken down over and over again. My family moved us from the third world to the first world. The whole lineage changed. I grew up Muslim in a Christian country. I, a brown man, married a white woman. Another wall brought down. A Muslim married a Christian. CRASH. Then I moved to Texas with my white wife and became American. CRASH. I had two daughters and no sons. CRASH. I stayed home with my daughters and brought them up while my wife worked. CRASH. I have republican friends and democratic friends. I have poor friends and ridiculously wealthy friends. I drink in dives and at the governors mansion. I don’t adhere to any classification but one. Human. Humans like to build walls, but the enlightened realize its futile. The act of being born is freeing yourself from a confined space to freedom. So why create confined space in a life?

Years ago, someone brought me an idea about virtual walls. I invested in it and sadly it didn’t succeed, however it represented all I believe in this world. Lifewall.org was to be the first wall to bring humanity together. A place for all humans to record their existence. It’s still there should anyone of you wish to get on and join humanity. What got me then to invest and what I still believe in is the mission of the endeavor shown below. The brown in me is happy to leave on that final note. Happy New Year and a full life to you all.
