We’re sitting down for a conversation with Kim Olson, Democratic candidate for Texas Commissioner of Agriculture, moderated by Texas Tribune co-founder and CEO Evan Smith.
Olson, a third-generation farmer and retired U.S. Air Force colonel, is the Democrat challenging Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller in November. Olson was previously director of human resources for the Dallas Independent School District, which had 22,000 employees and a $1 billion budget. She was CEO of Grace After Fire, a nonprofit that helps women veterans, and a Weatherford Independent School District trustee from 2007 to 2011. In 2014, Olson was inducted into the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame for her public service to Texans.
