Join us for a conversation with state Sen. Sylvia Garcia, the Democratic candidate for Texas’ 29th Congressional District. Tribune CEO Evan Smith will moderate the discussion, which will be held in Austin.

Garcia, D-Houston, has represented Senate District 6 since 2013. She is the seventh woman and the third Hispanic woman to serve in the upper chamber. During the 85th Legislative Session, she served on the Senate committees on Criminal Justice, Intergovernmental Relations, Natural Resources & Economic Development, and Transportation. She is running to replace U.S. Rep. Gene Green, D-Houston, who endorsed her for the job after announcing his retirement last November. On the Republican side, Phillip Aronoff and Carmen Maria Montiel are in a May 22 runoff to get to the November ballot.
